At a well-attended membership meeting of NRK Verpakkingen, the trade association of the Dutch plastic packaging industry, Joan Hanegraaf, CEO of the Oerlemans Packaging Group, resigned the gavel after 12 years and took his leave as a board member. Hanegraaf was expressly thanked for his vision of chain cooperation and his decisiveness in making the sector more sustainable. At his farewell he gave the following good advice: “the further sustainability of the plastics chain can only be achieved through cooperation”.

Rob Verhagen, director of sustainability at the Oerlemans Packaging Group, enthusiastically takes over the gavel. Despite the results achieved, there are still plenty of challenges. He is emphatically tackling these, also looking forward to working with the director of NRK Packaging, Roger Loop.

Driven by the members and the board, both will work in close coordination to further circularize the plastic packaging chain. They are supported by the insights from recent reports by both CE Delft and Systemiq, which indicate that challenges such as CO2 reduction and making society more circular are closely related. The use of plastics plays an essential role in this, and the innovative power of the more than 120 member companies of NRK Packaging is helping to accelerate the transition.
