Producers, importers and brand owners who place packaging on the Dutch market are required to pay a waste management contribution to Verpact. For flexible plastic packaging, the current contribution is €1.32 per kilogram. By making the right packaging choices, you can achieve savings of up to €0.60 per kilogram.
Savings example
Suppose you place 1 million kilograms of flexible plastic packaging on the Dutch market.
Your waste management contribution for this year would amount to €1,320,000.
By using the appropriate packaging, you could achieve savings of up to €600,000.
How can you obtain a discount?
If the packaging meets the following criteria:
- €0.20 per kilogram discount when using at least 20% recycled content in non-food contact applications
- €0.10 per kilogram discount if the packaging is transparent or white
- €0.10 per kilogram discount if the packaging consists of a mono-material
- €0.10 per kilogram discount if labels, sleeves or printing meet the required criteria
- €0.10 per kilogram discount if the packaging is considered highly recyclable according to the KIDV recycling check
The waste management contribution, as well as the available discounts, will continue to increase in the coming years.
